my freind with the austrailian shepherd (the really crazy one I posted about in training) didn't know that grapes are poisonous and fed one too her dog today she threw up on her walk, white frothy stuff, and has been drooling white stuff since. (she has her rabies booster)
One grape is not likely to poison a dog of shepherd size. However, if the dog is not feeling better or gets worse I would at least call an ER vet to get some advice.
Sounds like the dog might be dehydrated and suffering from heat exhaustion--grapes are poisionous but I do not think one would be that serious--your friend needs to call the vet if rest and hydration isn't suffice and I wouldn't wait too long.
ooh that would be bad, as soon as we got her home she was crated so they would know if anything else happened. she didn't seem dehydrated or hot though, it had just rained so it was very cool out, and she was not panting heavily (she always has her tounge out, even in the air conditioning) your probably right briteday, I just didn't know how big of a threat grapes were.
this is the austrailian shepherds owner, and i am proud to say she is doing fine. she got the grape out of her system and is frolicking and playing liek crazy again!
One grape would not harm a dog. And the symtoms you described are not those caused by eating grapes or raisins. Grapes and Raisins cause a dog to go into renal failure. Maybe this grape got stuck some where on the way down, which would cause the vomiting and panting. Once the dog got the grape unlodged, it got better.
