When to switch?

I got my 8 week old Puggle 2.5 weeks ago (so he's 10.5 weeks old now). He came on a Science Diet, diet. Not knowing any better, I got him a bag of Nutra Natural Choice Puppy and have been transitioning him onto that the past few days. From what I read, Canidae is a much better choice, and the store up the street carries it--as well as many of the other brands I've seen mentioned here.

My question is: How should I transistion him onto another, better food? Should I add it in now or wait till he is completely on the Nutra and then switch in a week or so?

Thanks.

Re: When to switch?

Hello and Welcome to the Forum. I would wait until he's almost done with the Nutra and then switch. Too many food changes too soon can cause some tummy upsets.

I agree with Box. Also keep in mind that some kibbles, when mixed will cause a stomach upset. So be sure to watch the switch carefully.

I agree, you don't want to do too many changes too often. Best to wait until you have almost finished the current bag of food and slowly transition to the new food.

Re: When to switch?

For me , What i find the best way to switch a dog over from one brand to another is to try it gradually over a period like seven to ten days. Try to increasing the portion of the new food and decreasing the old. For the formulation percentage , you may consult your vet .

It's usually 25% new, 75% old for a few days, then 50%/50%, then 75%/25% and so forth.
