help me choose a dog food

I am getting a cockapoo in a couple of weeks and she is going to be sent home with Purina Puppy Chow (I think). Should I continue using this? I know that if I switch it I need to do it slowly etc but I am wondering what kind of dog food is going to be best for her. My past dogs have had Iams or Eukanuba. Suggestions?

I suggest reading through all the previous threads about dog food. I suggest that you switch her off of Puppy Chow, but slowly. There are many good foods out there, just have to find them one for your pup. If you read the other threads there are many suggestions! Good luck

Research research is the key, I would get her off that puppy chow the minute you get her! I would go through some of the other posts and see what you find. I would start you dog on something natural and organic, its better for your dog. There are a lot of good foods out there, you just have to find the one that works best for your puppy. Stay away from anything that has fillers, bi-product, and corn. All the foods you can get in a grocery store are bad and cheap, that means cheaply made too! I have my dog on Timberwolf, she has done awesome on this food and I would never change again. Also Solid Gold, Wellness, Evo, Flint River Ranch, even Wysong are all BETTER choices for your pet. Just do your research! Here is a link to a great article you may want to check out... http://www.preciouspets.org/truth.htm

To the OP - tons have been posted on this already, check out this site, it has ratings on different foods. www.dogfoodanalysis.com
I would stick to the Purina until she gets settled in her new home. Rehoming is stressful enough you don't need to add to it with a food change and possible tummy upsets.

Re: help me choose a dog food

Perhaps you should use only a dry premium dog food , which is made especially for puppies . And before you want to switch , check with your vet first . Premium dry foods can give solid nutrition to your puppies .

Don't get wrapped up in all the hype of puppy formulas. A good all-life-stages formula is just fine.
