Well, you've hit the nail on the head: if they're not having problems, the dog is healthy, and the vet hasn't recommended a change... then no, there isn't anything wrong with it.
But it all depends on the dog, of course. As a
very general rule of thumb, I would recommend 2x daily feedings for average, healthy adult dogs. This works especially well for those of us who are monitoring intake, give meds/supplements that must be taken with meals, or have dogs who are chow hounds and would otherwise eat themselves silly.
And for my two rescues, it was key that they get onto a daily schedule. They came from very insecure, unstable environments and for them to learn that there is an established routine to our days was extremely helpful. They eat at certain times, exercise at certain times, go for a w-a-l-k at certain times... they were able to relax and become calm, well-mannered house dogs because they weren't always wondering what would happen next.
