Question on just how much to feed...

Ella's 35 lbs. now and is eating 3 3/4c. distributed evenly in 3 meals, Orijen large breed puppy, are we feeding too much? Her breeder thought she could eat a bit more LOL. On occasion she doesn't finish all her food within 15 min. or so and i'll pick it up and just feed it with her next meal (next meal is smaller by whatever was leftover, so she's not actually ever getting any more) Here's a pic of her body when my ds was attempting to stack her ( be nice he's still learning LOL) It's not at all the prettiest pic I have of her but this is the most complete body shot I have.

Woohoo! Another person who feeds Orijen! *High Five* . Anyway, 3 3/4 sounds like a lot to me. How big will she be as an adult, and how old is she now? I feed my puppy 1 cup per day but he's only 7lbs 6oz. My adult dog, Tank, gets two cups of food per day and he's 57lbs. He's not active AT ALL though...so that can make a difference.

She looks great in the pictures (good job stacking!!), I wouldnt worry so much about how much you are feeding, but how she looks. If she gets a bit heavy or stops eating one of her meals, time to cut back. If she looks thin or is still starving after her meals add a bit.

I like a defined tummy tuck, easily FELT ribs, good muscle tone. It appears your dog has all of the above. Good Job

I don't have an answer, in fact Orijen large puppy puzzles me. I too am feeding my dog that brand and, at the weight I estimate he'll be at puppy size, it's telling me that my dog needs at minimum, 3 cups a day. He was a bit underweight so I upped his food to that recommendation but he has been putting on a bit of pudge/his stool has loosened a bit. If he continues down this tract, I'm going to have to reduce it again

GREAT looking dog. we have two lab puppies and feed them 3 to 3.5 of canidae per day. our 9 mo old may be a tad heavy. the 4 mo old is lean on the same amount of food.

Re: Question on just how much to feed...

Thanks Guys/Gals!! She's 16 wks. righht now, 17wks. tomorrow , Her mom weighed in @ 68 lbs. pre-preg. and good weight for her. Her Dad's weight I'm not positive about but I'd hazard a guess at the top of standard. She's a pretty active pup, not at all hyper but we play a lot, go for short hikes or walks 2X/day and she plays with my Dad's puppy daily.
