i purchased some greenies the other day for my dogs teeth/breath. my wife made me take them back, saying she's heard they are unsafe. i "googled" it and found conflicting opinions. anyone use them?

Re: greenies?

I prefer not to use them. There have been many reports of dogs choking or becoming impacted. They recently changed the formula a bit and I suspect because of all the complaints. However, I still find that there are many other and better alternatives to Greenies.

Raw bones would be a good chew item for teeth. I also buy my dogs bully sticks on occasion.

thank you. when you say raw bones, you mean real bones from a butcher store, mkt etc? i've heard that can splinter and a dog can choke.

Bones are fine, if fed RAW. Can't be cooked, this is what makes them splinter.

As for the Greenies, I never have and never will give them to my dogs.

Re: greenies?

Be sure to choose bones that are appropriate to the size of your dog. But I feed a raw diet to my dogs and they eat the bones in their meat every meal without any problems. Again, bones must be raw to be safe for dogs to eat.

Re: greenies?

I have had great success with raw chicken backs for teeth cleaning. With larger bones Iget nervous when they start breaking larger chunks off and end up taking their "fun" away.
Just something to consider.

I agree. I also use thick rubber bones ( they like the pimple type= with bumps on them the most. )
