Canned Vs. Dry

I'm sure this is a question a lot of people ask but my friend is trying to switch her dogs food and I have no idea which is better, canned or dry. She's chosen a dry she really likes (Timberwolf organics) but not sure what she would get if she got canned. Her dog is a little overweight (lab/springer mix) and has been eating Iams for almost 3 years now. Any advice?

Innova Evo worked for my dogs while I fed wet. I switched to exclusively feeding dry a few days ago and that's working much better. Firmer, less frequent poos have been the case ever since I switched them exclusively to dry. It's not necessary to feed wet and if her dog is overweight she probably shouldn't feed wet anyway. Timberwolf Organics is a GREAT food!!

I love the smell of timberwolf :3 I've never heard anyone have a problem with that food.

The studies I've read indicate that there is no difference between feeding wet or dry, just preference or what works best for any given dog. However a quality dog food is always best, wet or dry.

I hate to bring this up, but most of the foods that were recalled were canned or pouch.

Canned vs Dry...I have heard that dry food is highly processed. As with processed foods, by the time it goes into your dog's tummies, no nutrients will be left!

I feed my dogs RAW foods! And when I am a little lazy dehydrated raw foods...cos its easier to prepare and they love it!

I find that using dry food is great to keep their teeth looking good. With feeding only wet your dogs don't get the daily chewing which helps keep their teeth clean by munching on the kibble. My opinion is dry is always good to go with if your dog will have it and the bigger the kibble the better (more chewing involved).
We managed to get our english staffy down from 26kg's to 18kg's over a few months using only premium dry food. He not only is now a healthy weight but the food has made his coat shine and he all round seems like a healthier dog.

We now feed a mixture of both wet and dry, which seems to keep all our pooches happy!

For dogs prone to bloat, you increase their risk by feeding dry kibble only.

Re: Canned Vs. Dry

I will admit that bloat is more of an issue with dry food, especially the lower quality that blows up like water balloons once they get into the stomach (if in doubt, soak a piece of your kibble in a bowl of water for 30 minutes). However, we have a neighbor with labs and they've had two of them bloat on canned food.

I was mainly looking at studies for dry vs wet with the dental issue. However those studies show that dry has no bearing on dental issues over wet. If the dog has the genetic makeup to have the bacteria that forms plaque they will form the plaque whether they are eating dry or wet. And a lot of dogs don't even chew their kibble since digestion starts in the stomach, not the mouth.
