Wet Food

Right now I am feeding Henry Orijen dry food and Innova Evo wet food. I started weaning him off of wet because it seemed like his stools were a bit loose. They seem much better now. This might sound silly, but does a dog need wet food? Someone once told me that without wet food they can have kidney problems...I don't know how legitimate that claim is. He does eat the food dry without a problem...gobbles down every last kibble...so I don't think he'd really miss the wet, but if I should be giving it to him, I will.

Re: Wet Food

I have a breed that is prone to bloat, so wet food is essential. That being said, I don't feed canned dog food. I poach ground meats (lamb, sirloin, buffalo) and chicken breasts w/garlic and a stalk of celery. I steam fresh vegetables (i.e., green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, kale, spinach, etc.), and add the meat and vegetables to brown rice cooked in low fat, low sodium chicken broth, or use the broth from poaching the chicken. I put individual servings in freezer bags, which I take out and thaw each day.

Stools are formed and firm.

It's less expensive than the premium canned foods, and much healthier with fresh meats and vegetables.
