Angry Finally found a beagle wouldn't eat

Hey everybody-

I am sitting two dogs for my friend. One of them is beagle and she wouldn't eat her regular kibble. So I tried couple things, here are what he ate: her peperoni taste like treat and some chicken noodle soup.

Is it safe to feed store bought soup? Or what else can I feed a dog who wouldn't eat? I am guessing she might have some stomach flu or something.

Thank you for any advice

Re: Finally found a beagle wouldn't eat

Most store-bought soups would have too high a sodium level for dogs (and for people, for that matter ).

For fussy eaters, my vet usually recommends boiling some chicken or hamburger and mixing it with cooked rice. Sometimes meat flavored baby foods.

If you're pet-sitting, though, it might just be nerves that make her have less of an appetite. Be careful trying different foods and tablefoods, as that can upset her stomach, too. But bland foods (like the meat & rice) should be fine.

Re: Finally found a beagle wouldn't eat

I have let a healthy dog go 2-3 days without eating. A healthy dog will not starve itself. She is probably uncomfortable being in new surroundings. If you can contact the owners I would ask if she has ever done this beofer. Several dogs that my daughter sits for will go without eating for a few days when they first come to stay with us. I think you run more risk of trouble by feeding something other than her regular kibble.

Thumbs up Re: Finally found a beagle wouldn't eat

Thank you so much for input.
My husband tried raw egg mixed with her kibble and she ate them.
I agree it could be new surrounding, missing their owner and bla bla bla even though they are super friendly with us, as if we are the parents.

Tomorrow I will try the egg trick, if that doesn't work, I will make some chicken or beef with rice soup.

Have a good weekend.

I agree. If a dog's hunger strike lasts more than 2-3 days, depending on the dog, I will mix in a little bit of canned dog food and usually the aroma entices them to eat. I would stay away from human food, unless the owners give permission.

Wow..a Beagle that will not eat! Now that's a first. You can add low sodium chicken broth to the dry food or mix in ground turkey for added flavor.
