INtroducing a new brand of food....Best way?

Hi there, we are interested in getting our dogs a better food and have decided to try Canidae since it looks like it will fit easily(hopefully) with all the dogs. Right now they are on Pedigree and I am wondering if I should start by mixing the two together for a couple of days before switching over completely? I have one older dog(16yrs) who will be getting a mix of Canidae Platinum and All Stages and the two younger ones will be getting just the All Stages. My older dog is overweight but exercising him is not an easy thing because he is blind(has been since he was two) and does not like to go outside for walks due to traffic noises and unfamiliar areas. Thanks!

Canidae is an excellent choice.

I would switch over a period of weeks with increasing proportion of the new food mixed with the old.

For me, the easiest way to do this is to have two extra food storage containers. One will contain about 1/3 new and 2/3 old. I feed that for about a week, or until it runs out. Then I'll feed 2/3 new with 1/3 old for another week, before switching to 100% new.

How I use to switch food was- pm feeding- 1/2 of the old food- thats it- . Next morning 1/2 of what they would get in the new food ( thats it again), and final night pm the amount they would get of the new food.
By dividing and reducing the amount it allows the stomach to have the introduction but not enough food to upset the gut. I do not mix the two foods- because really you had made a new formula.
