Feeding Schedules

How many times per day do you guys feed? if more than one, do you feed equal rations?

We started feeding our guy 3 tiems per day, then around 4-5 months we went to two times per day, always equal rations. We've been noticing that these days he'll leave some of his "breakfast" but clean the bowl at dinner and actually want more. What i've been doing is reducing the breakfast by the amount he's regularly leaving and adding that to the second meal. He's 10 months, so I'm not sure he's old enough to go with one meal only yet. What do you guys think?. This is the first dog I have that I'm not free feeding, so I'm not very sure about the schedules and stuff.

I would think it depends on the type of dog you have. Small dogs tends to mature faster, therefore, they can be on adult dog and less meals sooner than a larger breed dog.

Personally, I like 2 meals a day, equal ration, just because my dog tends to be so hungry being on just 1 meal that they literally swallow their food down whole.

However, all my dogs are performance dogs so I do have to watch what they eat. On days we train and a lot of treats are used, I will skip one of their meals.

My guys got 4-5 meals a day until they were about 3 or 4 months old. Than 3 meals a day until they were about 9 months old.

Now they both get a small, but filling breakfast, a mix of kibble and canned. And dependent on the amount of exercise, a small/medium/big dinner. Plus they get tonnes of treats throughout the day for training, so I deduct that from their meals.

Wink Food

My Zoe eats twice daily. In the morning she gets 3/4 cup of wellness kibble and at night she gets 1/2 a cup of kibble and 1/4 of a can of wet. And of course a couple treats during the day and always some sort of dessert!!

Part of this is correct. Large breeds do mature slower, but you really want to keep down the growth because of damage to young bones. I would never keep a giant breed on puppy food longer than 4 months.

My dogs are fed 2x, equal portions. I don't feed them in the morning though because they wouldn't usually finish or even touch their food. They get one meal in the afternoon and one in the evening.

Feeding Schedules

I feed my beautiful doxies twice a day. I pick up the food at 7:00 so that they can go out to potty between 9 and 10 and they do great during the night.
