Soup bones

I have a two month old Siberian husky. Trying to crate train him and the breeder that I got him from suggested giving him a soup bone (not cooked). So i got him one last night and put it in his crate, he loved it.
But today he had diarrhea during his morning walk before eating his breakfast. So I'm thinking it might be because of the bone, he never had diarrhea before.
Is it OK for pups that young to eat raw bones?

Re: Soup bones

It's ok to give bones to young dogs. But most soup bones have a lot of fat on them. That's probably what caused the diarrhea. I would go to abutcher or grocery store, find some long beef ribs, cut off almost all the meat and fat leaving just enough to gnaw on (great time to make a batch of chili with your scraps!) and let the dog have those bones instead. You could also describe to a butcher what you are looking for and see what they can do for you. However, I can get the beef and prok ribs for $.99/lb where I live, at least during the summer grilling season!

Since your dog is a large breed, the ribs will probably be too small after a month or two. Then you'll have to move on to making friends with a local butcher anyway! Just be clear when you describe how long, how thick, and amount of meat/fat you want on the bones. My butcher seemed to think more fat was better. I did a lot of trimming in the beginning.
