Homemade Yogurt and RAW question

What do you guys think about giving homemade yogurt dogs? Would it be healthier than buying it? Jus thought I'd get oppinions before trying it.

Also. Would it be a good idea to maybe look into feeding my dog raw about twice a week or so? What all would I have to do?

Thanks in advance for any replys

Re: Homemade Yogurt and RAW question

I know some people feed both raw and kibble. HOwever isnce offering my dogs raw, they won't touch kibble. So that could be an issue.

Since plain organic yogurt is so cheap I see no reason to go through the trouble to make your own. I get a quart container for around $2.50.

Feeding raw is easy. To get started just pick up some whole chickens, cut them in quarters and give a quarter section to your dog as a meal. (It looks like you have a large breed dog, 2-3% of body weight per day is a normal place to start feeding) Also, try to find meat that hasn't been "enhanced." Read the label and if they've added anything besides water, keep looking.

If you are going to continue with raw feeding after a trial, then you need to do your research. There are a lot of good posts in the food section with links to Internet resources. Take the time to educate yourself.

Re: Homemade Yogurt and RAW question

I would suggest you consult a holistic vet before you begin switching to raw. There is a lot of information you need to have for raw feeding, and differnt breeds need different balances of nutrients. I personally could not do it! I would be afraid I would miss some essential vitamins or minerals in their diet. I stick with the all-natural kibble from wellness. If you are interested in some really good wet food (not mush). I would look up info on Fromms can food. Truly, it looks like it came from your stove. Good luck on which ever way you decide to go!
