Thumbs up Heaven!!!

I have a beagle/bassett mix that sheds like no other, so for months I've been looking for a solution.
I bought a brush that had little wire teeth, lots of them, and she cringed every time I brushed her...I didn't know why. I found out this weekend while I was trying to get hair off the brush that the wire teeth were piercing her skin! I barely touched the thing and it pinched me and I started bleeding. My poor baby, she didn't even cry she just winced and looked at me when I brushed her.
Then I bought her one with black plastic bristles, similar to a human brush, and on the other side it had wire "bristles" much like the ones found on a "flat" human hairbrush.
Anyway, neither of those did the job to take care of her shedding.
Last night I went to target and I purchased a red silicon like mitt. And guess what?! It did the job! It took all the excess hair off and I am so happy b/c for once she got on my bed and I didn't have to worry about her hair being all over the place---like it normally gets on my face. Her coat also looks a lot better, and the best part: SHE LOVES IT! She feel asleep while I groomed her, and she even flipped over on the other side so I could get it.
It's just like the wrapper said, "it's like a belly rub except even better"
Anyway, I can't remember the name of the product but it had a Bassett Hound on it and it is red.
Just thought I would share

I think I know which one you are talking about and you can also use it while you bath your dog.. to really get the shampoo working.

Re: Heaven!!!

One thing I use on my shorter coated dogs (I am not a professional groomer) that seems to work wonders for shedding is a rubber horse curry comb. Is that anything like the kong brush someone else mentioned?

Mastiffmama27-

Yep, the Kong ZoomGroom is nothing but a horse curry comb- it may be a tad more pliable. I have the Zoom Groom and love it. The boys think it's a toy, and I can use it when they get bathed. For shorter coats, it can't be beat (unless, of course, you can get a heck of a deal on a curry comb! )

Re: Heaven!!!

A really useful tool I use on short coated breeds is a sheadding blade. It sounds and look a bit evil but works magic on dogs that shed heaps. It looks like a horse sweat scraper but its metal and haa little teeth all along it. it doesnt hurt the dog but it picks up all the loose and dead hair off the dog and some kinds you can use the other (smooth) side as a water scraper in the bath. I'd be careful with rubber currys on long coated dogs in the bath as it can knot the hair easily and all the brushing you did prior to the bath you've now got to do ALLLLLLL over again. Also currys shouldn't be used as a sole grooming tool for double or combination coated dogs as it wont get to the skin, remove the loose undercoat or get the tangles out very effectively. Otheriwse they're a great little tool and dogs love them

Re: Heaven!!!

melsysmutts: LOL I get our curry combs at the feed store for about $1.89 add that to the 'kennel discount' we get (5%) even though I'm not a kennel. and I pretty much get them free since I buy so much there at a time. Is that a good deal??

justagirl21: I have a variety of coat types here and was only referring to short coats when I mentioned the curry. I also have assorted combs and brushes (although I have no idea what they are called). I'm not a groomer but my dogs are shiny, don't shed a whole lot (except in spring), the tools I use do not hurt them and no mats and I call it good.

Re: Heaven!!!

Mastiffmama- you can't beat your price on curry combs. I'd stick with them. I think I paid $5 for my ZoomGroom and about $7 for the last curry comb I bought for a friend.

Also, I'm scared of the shedding blade- they just look nasty. I'm sure they work great, but I'm a weenie. Give me a piece of non-threatening rubber any day!

Re: Heaven!!!

I have a bunch of ZoomGrooms, and another small rubber curry; similar to a horse curry, but with much shorter 'bristles'...my cats, especially love being groomed with these things!! And they do help a ton with shedding.

Re: Heaven!!!

Mastiffmama27 - no offence taken, I'm just advising as I didn't know what tools, so long as your dogs coats are knot fee and looking good and your dogs are comfortable, it wouldn't care if you used a fork lol!
