What should I use on my dog?

Hi I have a Australian Terrier.

I feed him Horizon Adult food at the moment

He has had shedding problems before, but it's coming back and leaving and coming back.

I lost my old comb and I'm using a slicker on him
quite like this one http://www.coastalpet.com/products/images/W414.jpg

I'm pretty sure that isn't a brush I should be using on him, I feel like he is shedding more.

I can't exactly describe his coat. It's kind of rough (like a Australian terrier should.)

I don't want anything that pulls out his hair, just the loose hair.

Please help!

Re: What should I use on my dog?

Are you hand stripping him? If not, that is why he is shedding. New coat won't grow in unless you pull out the dead. From the sounds of it, you are concerned with keeping the coat in, and its dead coat..thats why its just falling out. Its so dead, its just coming out. You can speed up this process by pulling whatever is loose. Then, if you rotate (pull the longest layer of hairs )his coat every month, you won't ever get these heavy "shedding" sessions. AT's should be handstripped in order to maintain the coarse coats..and that means old dead coat needs to be pulled.

At times of peak shedding, I use a slicker like yours. Between times, I go back to a soft bristled brush.
