Would you groom someone's dog?

Hi there. A friend of mine asked me to groom her dog or show her on her dog how I groom mine. I explained I would never groom someone's dog as they know their dog like I don't. Really, I am a stranger to the dog for the most part and besides, I am not a groomer. I offered to show her how I groom my dogs and she can watch. Like me, we are both out of work and looking to save money.

I am curious, would some of you be comfortable grooming somebody else's dog? Am I just being paranoid?

Thanks.

Depends. If you're not comfortable don't touch her dog. Period.

Show her good practices on your dogs, you know how they will react. If you are comfortable let her practice on your dogs... I work with dogs and am very comfortable working with them but if you're not than don't.

I guess it would really depend on the grooming requirements of that dog. I know how to do Poodles and Shih Tzus, so would feel comfortable grooming them, not so much with other breeds. I would more likely send her to a groomer's forum online, so she could learn specific breed grooming herself, and/or have her observe me while doing my own dog(s).

Re: Would you groom someone's dog?

I get asked all the time who grooms my kids. Often it's cocker people asking. I say I do.. and they ask if I'll do theirs. I'd rather not honestly. I know my guys. I don't want to play with strangers dogs with their vices I'm unaware of. Likely wouldn't be worth what they are willing to pay really for my sanity.

I wouldn't even think of doing it if I didn't feel comfortable doing so, you offered to show her how and that was nice enough.

If you are not comfortable grooming strange dogs then don't.

just say no.

I clip my horse for competitions in fall/spring. I get asked if I would clip other people's horses. I always say no. It just isn't worth the $$ for me to get injured working on someone else's horse. I'm not a pro, and there are plenty of pros out there who do a good job. Hire them.

If you are a stranger to the dog, I wouldn't. You never know, while you are grooming he/she, the dog could bite you, if he/she feels uncomfortable to.
If you feel ok do it, like if you pet the dog, and the dog likes you, but if you don't I wouldn't.
And that was nice to offer how to groom it, I would do what you said, send her to a forum, or give her a site

Re: Would you groom someone's dog?

Since you asked me if I would. then my answer is yes. I worked as a groomer for moderately coated breeds two years. I wouldn't mind doing it again for a price. I have my own grooming supplies and grooming table as well.
