Puppy hates being brushed

How do you handle a puppy that hates being brushed? Everytime he sees me coming with the brush, he goes crazy and starts attacking it. I don't want to hold him down since I feel that will only traumatize him more.

Put him up on a small table, have someone hold the leash, and just matter of factly, start brushing him. When he moves, put him back in the postition you want him in, and say "stand"...then keep on brushing. If he wants to bite the brush, put the brush to his mouth and let him bite it. He will learn very fast that its uncomfortable to bite the brush, and it doesn't help his cause. He will bite it, and then let go. Then you continue to brush, repeating the above until he realizes he isn't going to get away with his tantrum. Don't do this on the floor, or your lap...those are play/love/fun areas, and he needs to be taught that the brush means business/work time and less confusion to him as to what is acceptable behavior and what is not.
