| Help finding a good flea spray/meds? Hello everyone! Hope your day has been great! I have a 6 wk old Pitt Bull male pup and I am looking for some info on a good flea spray/med I can use on him. I have tried washing him daily with dawn dish soap (vet recommened it) but still get one or two while he goes out to potty. He is only outside long enough to potty and excerise while my kids play of an evening, he also gets a morning walk. I've also tried Sergrent's Flea Spray but wasn't impressed with it and it smelled awful. HELP! Any suggestions or success stories you all can share with me.
Thanks for reading.! |

| Re: Help finding a good flea spray/meds? Garlic repels fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. It repels all internal worms except heartworm. It is antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal. It boosts the immune system. The garlic scents the blood (only parasites can smell it) and the fleas don't even come near. These chemical treatments only work if the flea bites the dog. The dog still caries them into the house and he still suffers from the bite. How big is your puppy? Garlic dosages vary depending on weight. I get the minced garlic in a jar for about $5 and it will last almost a year. Mix it in with his food. A little food with garlic, and the rest plain. That eliminates the garlic breath. |

| Re: Help finding a good flea spray/meds? He is probably about 3-4+/- lbs but I am needing something that would also stop him from bringing them inside. |

| Re: Help finding a good flea spray/meds? The garlic should stop him from bringing them inside..the fleas generally won't go near him. All the topical treatments like Frontline, etc. only kill the fleas when they bite, so those aren't going to do the job for you. If there are so many fleas outside where you live, that a tiny puppy has them on him from being outside for a little while, I would be treating your yard! Holy cow! I would also worry about using too many flea meds on such a young puppy. You can overdose them and make them very sick. |

| Re: Help finding a good flea spray/meds? sounds like perhaps your yard needs to be treated with DE.(diatomaceous Earth) I would be fearful to use so many commercial flea products on puppies. I am not sure of the specifics but you might want to check the packages. I know some shampoos and sprays say not to use on puppies. |

| Re: Help finding a good flea spray/meds? I have little confidence in Dawn or a vet that suggests it. 6 weeks is a little early to be in the home, but I think you can use some of the better flea products at that age. There are so many different ones and each has its advantages and disadvantages. The best ones come from the vet. I would go to a different vet and go with Advantage, Revolution, Pro Meris, Sentinel, or whatever that vet has that will work best in your conditions. Frontline has been a mainstay for years, but I have read many reports of it no longer working in the last year. |

| Re: Help finding a good flea spray/meds? You need to treat the environment - inside and outside. With a flea infestation, a 6-wk. old puppy is at risk for anemia, which could result in needing a blood transfusion. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum! Then immediately toss the bag into the outside garbage.
Dawn is commonly used, however, not necessary. A mild oatmeal dog shampoo will suffice. You need to wet the coat, use a sponge to work in the (dilluted) shampoo, and let it sit on the puppy for a good 5 minutes. The fleas will drown.
Stay away from any and all flea products you can get in your grocery store (like Hartz, Seargent's). They are not safe for your puppy, and could result in death.
Call a pest control service, or your local Do It Yourself Pest Control store. The latter will supply you with what you need, along with instructions in how to use it. |
