Rosie's Matts

When we first got Rosie, her hair was matted all over. (Below is a picture) Her backend and tail were the worst of it. I bought a rake/brush thing similar to a furminator and was able to rake out the majority of the matts. I took her to a groomer a week later (once I found one that would take her while she was in heat) and she looks tons better. She still has some matts in her tail. I keep at it every night when I brush her to try and get out what I can. The hair on her tail as well as a little on her hind end is extremely dry. I told my husband that it almost feels like singed hair.

Does anyone have any miracle cures of what I can do to get her coat looking its best?

Re: Rosie's Matts

There is no miracle cure, unfortunately. Hair is dead, and once damaged, little can be done to get it back to health. Her coat looks sundamaged more than anything. Bleached out and dried out. Conditioning isn't going to do much at this point. She will shed out the old coat, and with good diet and grooming routine, the new coat will be nice and healthy. Until then, all you can do is feed her a good diet, maybe add a good coat oil like Halo Dream Coat, and wait.

That is kind of what I thought too. She has been eating Taste of the Wild mixed with Chicken Soup. I was going to try and get them both on Chicken Soup, but Rascal prefers that and Rosie prefers TOTW so I may just keep mixing them. I brush her every day and she does look tons better than what she did. I'll try that coat oil and see what that does. Thanks!

TOTW is a great food. I prefer it over Chicken Soup, though I believe both are made by Diamond? And I am not a fan of that company. Try the coat oil. You can find it cheap online, and my dogs (even my picky one) love it dribbled on their dinners. Of course its not going to work overnite..the coat still has to shed out and new grow in.
