Question Tipping the groomer?

Sorry to sound like such an ignoramus here, but do you tip doggy salon staff?

I just took Gatsby in for a $5 nail trim @ PetCo (it's always $5 on Mondays). The woman before us tipped the man $3. I didn't tip him anything because I had no cash on me, but in the future, should I be tipping the man who cuts my dogs nails?

P.S. I was so proud of Gatsby. He took it so well... he literally laid down on his back and stuck up his paws in the air, like, "I'm ready for my pedicure!"

I always do! They provided a service so why not. I also tip when I get my dogs groomed. Groomers do get really up close and personal with your dog (if you know what I mean!!)

Re: Tipping the groomer?

Tips are always appreciated but never expected in my salon. Some tip, some do not. I do free nail trims, all the time, and have some people give me a $20, and some people never give me anything. I treat them all with professionalism and respect, regardless, but tips are always greatly appreciated.

I also groom dogs. Some clients tip and some don't. Most don't on nail trims. I charge $5.00 for nail trims and I think thats enough. The clients that tip for haircuts are the ones that I make room for when I really don't have time to get any more in that day. I find room for them. Keep that in mind.

Re: Tipping the groomer?

I tipped last week when I got Ripley groomed...I figured since I tip when I get my hair cut, I should tip when my dog gets his hair cut, plus I make a living as a waitress, so I tend to err on the side of tipping if I'm not sure or over tipping if I am sure.
