Help please, I scratched my dog's skin

I was going to give Buchman a bath today so I brushed him first.
He sat down while I was brushing him and I must have scratched some skin on his back where his spine was sticking out. I thought it was just dandruff flaking off but then I noticed him twitching when I brushed there. I looked at his skin and there is a small patch where the skin was broken .
It's not bleeding really and he doesn't seem to be bothered by it but I don't know if I should do anything. A scratch like that on me would heal in no time but there's fur covering it on him so I don't know.

What kind of dog is Buchman? What kind of brush are you using?

Re: Help please, I scratched my dog's skin

Buchman is mix, of what i'm not really sure . He has a fairly short coat and I was using a slicker brush.
Now that I'm looking at him again, the scratches aren't as noticeable anymore.

His coat seems to feel and smell more oily now. I haven't washed him in 4 weeks and didn't end up doing it today since I didn't want to irritate his skin more. I got some oatmeal shampoo and was thinking of washing him tomorrow.

A slicker brush should only be used on a dog that has long hair.

Try a Bristle Brush or Rubber Grooming Glove or even a Zoom Groom brush.

Take care....

I see thanks.

Actually, i think i probably overreacted a little. I'll keep an eye on him but he seems fine today and skin seems good too.
