Grooming Tools

Hello. I have a standard poodle, but we don't really groom her (please don't freak out. She is a healthy 6 year old dog, and we know what we're doing), however, I just got a mini poodle, and need to get some grooming tools. I was wondering what you guys recommend I get.

Thanks,

Draba

What do you mean you don't groom your Standard? I'm a bit confused by that statement...

Anyway, as far as grooming tools, what are you meaning by needing grooming tools? At minimum you need a greyhound style comb, brush out spray, nail trimmers, and a slicker brush. You should also have ear cleaning solution, and ear powder. If you are planning on clipping the dog, you will need a decent dog clipper, blades, snap on combs (if you want to leave him long), scissors, thinning shears, shampoo, conditioner, and some sort of dog dryer.

I have 3 Standard Poodles, so I'd really love to hear how you've managed to never groom your 6-yr. old Standard! THAT's quite a feat! LOL

As for MINIMUM basic grooming tools, here's what I recommend:

Chris Christensen's Pin Brush
Chris Christensen, #1 All Systems, or Madden Slicker
Stainless Steel Greyhound Comb
Brush out spray - EQyss Avacado, or other, and ALWAYS use before touching the hair with a brush!
Nail Clipper or Dremel

If you're going to groom yourself, then you'll need lots of other equipment and supplies as well.

Grooming Table
Clipper
Blades
Snap Ons
High Velocity (HV) dryer

Shampoo
Conditioner
Ear Cleanser
Ear Powder

I'm sure she has her Poodle groomed by a professional; it would NOT be a pretty sight to let a Poodle go without ever being groomed! Their hair keeps growing, like ours does, and would be a matted, tangled mess if just left. The dog would be miserable!
