Red face Tag team nail clipping - it works!

The last two times we've done my min pin's nails, which is usually a pain in the butt involving him squirming and crying before you even touch his nails, we've tried something new. My SO does the nail clipping and I distract him with treats the entire time, just feeding him tiny peices of treats non stop the whole time. I'm happy to say it's working! He's now so focused on the treats that he doesn't even care that his nails are being clipped.

So if you have a dog that's hard to clip and a partner, this might work!

Keep up the good work. Soon you won't even need the treats. Tag teaming works great.

works great doesn't it? I used my kids as the "pez treat dispensers" to acclimate all mine to the dremmel.

I dog team with my mom. She holds the dog while i use the flash to see where to cut (she has black nails and read somewhere that if u flashed a flashlight to the nail you can where the quick ends. it works) and cut it. Although sometimes she knows what we are doing and starts biting again.

Well, you are ahead of me on that one! That is the one thing I have not been able to do with my boy dog. Of course, it doesn't help that he was totally brutalized on his first nail trimming event.

I have tried EVERYTHING. We even have tried drugging him. The only way I've been able to get his nails trimmed is by having the vet anesthetize him. Even they can't do it! They had 4 people once trying to hold him and give him treats. It didn't work. They got one nail. All this for a 6 lb. Chi! The last time I tried it, the vet came out and told me they were very afraid he was so stressed he might have a heart attack!

Anyway, congrats - I'm glad you have made progress!

I have to do something. I even ordered the peticure. It's the one nightmare with my little dogs. The girl does fine. But not the boy.

Isn't it great? I was struggling with Poca and the dremel, even with a bowl of treats at hand. She would let me do her back feet but not the front. Then - duh! - I had my husband hold a kong with peanut butter in it in front of her nose. As long as she lets me dremel her nails, the peanut butter stays in place. As soon as her paw jerks away, we take the peanut butter away. It worked! She now knows to let me work on her paws to keep the peanut butter store open. Yeah! It takes a fraction of the time now.
