| Grooming question.... I was just wondering what some of you do with dogs like Shelties with long hair. Do you clip around where they pee and poo to help keep them cleaner? I was just wondering because Chloe is kind of dirty there, and she's got a ton of hair, lol. |

| Re: Grooming question.... I scissor around there and make a poop shoot where it's shorter near the butt. But I still leave it natural. Unless it's really thick then I clipper with a #10 around the bum hole and scissor the rest. Sometimes I thinning shear to make it more natural looking.

| Re: Grooming question.... Cool, I'll have to check into that. When she goes poo, she has to take about 3 or 4 steps before it drops out of her fur, and because I don't know what she was eating before, her stool is a little softer due to a change in food. She's on Solid Gold Wolfking with the other dogs. All I got from the HS is the previous owner never fed any particular food, just whatever was cheapest and on sale, like Pedigree, Iames, etc. But it's getting better now, yesterday she had fairly hard stools. And no more gas. She had bad gas when I got her, lol. So I think she's adjusting just fine. I may try it myself to make a little poo shoot, lol.
Oh, and I've never seen a dog do what she does. When she pee's, she walks while squating down, makes a trail. Then, when she's just about done, she lifts her rear left leg, lol. Almost like a male dog lifting his leg, lol.

| Re: Grooming question.... Yes, our little papillons and the pom mix all get a sanitary clip every now and then. When I go to use the clippers in that area they usually "pucker" a bit so it is easy to see where to shave. Then I make the "pop shoot" trimming away a bit of their pants in the back, also thinning with thinning shears to make it look a bit more natural. My girls also get their fur underneath stained yellow a bit from urine. So I trim away the long hair around the urethra as well. Just be really careful with this so that you don't clip the end of the urethra if the dog moves or you misjudge. I always keep my thumb and index finger holding the tip of the urethra while I'm clipping. |

| Re: Grooming question.... LWB...no comments on the grooming but Roxxy hikes her leg to pee most of the time. Or she will back up to a bush, fence, etc, lift a leg a pee. I have also seen all my female dogs that I have had do the "walking pee" and have never figured it out.
Good luck with Chloe...got any new pictures of her..huh, huh??? |

| Re: Grooming question.... hehehe, no new pics yet. We just got home from class, Chloe did excellent. She's going to have a really good heel, now we just have to work on her Come. It's awsome to see her learn so fast, and be such a happy dog. As for Nell, I really, really miss her, lol. Dropped her off at the vet this morning to get spayed. It sure is quiet around here, lol. Never knew all the barking could grow on you, lol. |

| Re: Grooming question.... Yes, they are done. I got a call from the vet this afternoon that she was done, and can be picked up anytime after 10am tomorrow morning. Their policy is to keep the dog overnight for the first night to monitor the stitches. They told me she did very well, and she is a pleasure to be around. Makes me feel good. |

| Re: Grooming question.... Well, I was talking to my trainer at class today, and asked what the groomer near her charges and she told me not to go, they charge too much. So instead of getting Chloe groomed there, the trainer said she would do it, and show me how to do it from start to finish. She also does the sanitary clipping as well. So I look forward to learning. I do Betty and Nell myself, but have never done a dog with hair as long as Chloe, lol. Can't wait, lol. Quote:
