Spots on face?

Hey everyone. Recently Sadie got these spots right above her nose, they have started to get bigger and more frequent. It almost looks like the skin pigment, it's not a scab or dirt. She also seems to be rubbing her face on the carpet a lot, as if this area itches and she's trying to scratch it. They developed over the past week.

A friend said this is probably dog acne, but when I googled it, it sounds like that is most often on their lips and chin, and she doesn't have anything there. One of our cats got acne for a while and it looked similar, and we treated it with Neosporin. It probably is this, but I want to see if anyone else has ideas.

This photo of her where she's all wet shows them really well, normally they are not this obvious, but I can see them when I look close and examine her skin. So this should show the size and color.

She has been trying several new foods over the week as we switched prey-model raw diet, so I thought maybe she was reacting to something we tried, but I am 75% sure she got a spot before any of those. I am going to give her just chicken for a while just in case. We'll probably go to the vet later this week and see what she says, but they're all closed tomorrow, and it's not urgent

Is it acne? If so, do I need to do anything for it? Same as for the cat?

Re: Spots on face?

Are you talking about the fairly large black spots on the skin? I can't see anything else in the photo? If those are what you mean, they are simply pigment spots, and she may have them elsewhere under the coat as well. She may be itching some of the hair out in that area, making them more visible to you, but chances are, they have always been there. Many white dogs have black patches of pigment in their skin in places. I can't see anything else in the pics that is not normal?

Yes those - they have gotten pretty large, but a week ago she didn't have them, they just appeared. I don't see them anywhere else. I mean I can't search every spot of her body but the itching and the spots together concern me. What would be causing the itching? She's not scratching anywhere else excessively, so even if the spots aren't a problem the rubbing her nose is - it seems like she's uncomfortable because of it

Re: Spots on face?

How old is she?

Maggie has pigment on her face and stomach, but that is common in a bulldog. The older she gets the more the pigment came in.

Looks like freckles to me. May have been in the sun too much lately.

Heh, cool. Any ideas on the itching? Is that normal, to rub their faces on the floor? I can't remember if I've ever seen her do that outside or anything but she does it a lot on the carpet. (No, there's not something smelly there to rub in lol)

Re: Spots on face?

I suppose it could be a number of things. Maybe it's just a simple nose itch, something tickling it, possibly something caught in her teeth, in her ears or eyes. ????? If it continues I would check with your vet to be sure.

Re: Spots on face?

Yeah since it's been going on for about a week we'll likely call the vet on Tuesday. Thanks. I thought maybe someone else would know about the acne thing - before it happened to the cat I didn't even know animals got acne lol.

Re: Spots on face?

I am assuming you are talking about the black spots. Is this correct?
Acne are little tiny pimples looks like blackheads and would be on the chin.

Yeah, the spots - on the cat, the acne looked just like this, but he did have it on his chin. Sadie doesn't have these anywhere else.
