Any clipper recommendations??

My friend grooms my dog for me but I'd love to learn to do it by myself; she's a chinese crested so it has to be able to trim very close to the skin (like a men's shaver). She uses a Wella Contura.. which apparently not only is hard to get ahold of but also over $100. =| I was hoping there was something more affordable...?? I've seen some reviews on the Wahl Tid Bit (as they'll need to be small because her face is so tiny, she's only 6lbs) which is around $70 which is a little more reasonable but I was hoping to spend under $50.
I've seen her get groomed and she stands still and is great but I'm still worried to knick her! The only small ones I found at a pet store close by is a touch up trimmer... but I wouldn't be using it for touchups, I'd be using it for her whole body and they all say for 'light use.' Does that mean it wouldn't work on all of her hair??

Re: Any clipper recommendations??

Forget any trimmers or clippers that are sold at pet stores. Start with a professional clipper or trimmer, because it does the job right, and you won't be throwing it away. A Wahl Arco cordless would be perfect for your little dog. They're very easy to handle and use, and cost around $118. I suppose you could get the Tid Bit, since your dog is so small.

I learned to shave my Poodles' face, feet, and base of tail using the Wahl Arco. I love it! I never injured my dogs during the learning phase, and cannot say enough good things about this trimmer. I got another one just because it came out in pink! LOL (One for my Maddy girl, and the other for Beau).

Re: Any clipper recommendations??

When Lucy was still with me I bought clippers from PetsMart and either I didn't know how to use them (which is highly likely) or they didn't work very well. I never really used them and continued to take her to a groomer.

I love Andis' line of clippers as well; I have 4 of them; three are 2 speeds, and the other is the single speed cordless (I also have the corded adapter)...My oldest one is over 3 years old now...I have some older ones, too, but they need new housings, otherwise they too still run great (oldest is 8 years, and is from when I first started grooming full time).
