So do I even need different blades?

If I buy a size... let's say 1 blade... and I buy a bunch of different snap on combs, would I even need to buy any other different sized blades?

Re: So do I even need different blades?

Twenty years ago I bought a set of Oster home pet clippers with a #40 blade (surgically close cut) and two blade guards. It has worked fine for me all of these years. Just remember to keep the blade oiled and don't overheat the unit.

And I've done a variety of dogs...cocker spaniel, shi tzu, poodle, wheaten terrier, papillons, pomeranian mix, border collie...

It depends on what you are wanting to do. If you want to leave a decent amount of hair, and not do a super close shave, you can purchase a #30 blade, and Wahl Stainless Steel Comb attachments, and do different lengths with those. You do need to make sure the dog is clean, dry, and there are NO tangles for using attachments. If you want to shave, those aren't going to get you short enough. They vary from just over an inch long, to about 1/4 inch long, depending on the type of coat you are working with also. You would still need a #10 for sanitary/potty trail though. You "could" use the attachments over the #10, but its doesn't give as nice a finish in my opinion.
