Easier than cutting - filing!!

I bought a different set of nail clippers the other day because the ones we have are starting to get a little flimsy, and they came with a file to take off the rough edges. I found he didn't mind the filing at all, but the cutting is still a pain in the butt. He doesn't panic as much as he used to but he still cries and wiggles and it's generally unpleasant for both of us.

So I went to the hardware store and bought a small metal file and used that on his nails last night, and he was so relaxed he was sleeping on his back while I did his nails. It looked ridiculous I'm sure. Can you say pampered?

Anyway just thought I'd share for anyone struggling with nail clipping. I would love to use the dremmel but we could never get anywhere near him with the noise it makes.

That is great! It looks so uncomfortable walking around with nails hitting the floor, he will be much happier. I used a diamond file on my spaniel mix when he had a broken dew claw and was so afraid of being hurt. It was okay but very slow. What file did you buy? I will have to go look and see if I want to add it to my grooming arsenal.

I'm no hardware expert so there may be a better tool than the one I got, but I bought the shortest metal file I could find.

i dont think i should be using this but i dont see why not...i use human nail clippers on my min pin. he hates getting cliped, but once i used a nail file and he was alittle squirmy but eventually gave in, he never gives in to the clippers. file takes too long though. thinking of getting some dog clippers maybe itll make it easier.

Roxxy is a wild child when it comes to clipping her nails. I can't do it and it takes 2 vet techs and me at the vet. She even hates to have her feet dried. I am spending $11.50 a pop to have the vet do them (I won't let PetsMart near my dogs even tho it's cheaper) and her nails grow 3X faster than Butch's.
