New to home grooming...Need help

Hi everyone,

I just ordered the Andis Super 2 Speed AGC online. It says that it comes with
#10 blades. I really don't know what that means...lol And I really don't want to scalp my "kids" (a cairn & Terrier mix). I usually have them groomed a Petsmart but would like to try to do it at home. They usually leave their hair a little less than an inch all over. Does anyone know if the clippers come with good instructions? Thanks in advance for your help! Toni

Hi Toni,

The clippers are going to come with instructions on how to take care of them. Not instructions on how to groom your pets. And a 10 blade is going to make them look like little pink piggies... That is a blade you want to use around the anus, corners of eyes, and potty trails only. If you want to leave some coat you can use a 4F blade, or a 3 blade on the bodies. You will need to scissor up the feet and faces, unless you like the faces super short and not fuller and rounded. If they are normally left a little less than an inch all over, you will need attachments to fit over a #30 or 40 blade, as blades don't leave it that long. You will need to make sure that there are no tangles or snarls in the coat anywhere when using an attachement, or they will dig into the coat and take a chunk of hair out, or fly off the blade, making a very short spot on the coat. You will need much more equipment than just clippers. Comb, brush, shears, different blades mentioned above, dryer, nail trimmers, hemostats if they have hair in the ear canals, ear cleaner, etc. Many people can certainly groom their pets at home, but it costs a bit to get the tools you need and it takes time to learn how to use the tools safely and effectively.

Hi Graco!

Thanks for your advice! I have cancelled the order for the clippers decided stick with taking them to the groomers. It sounds like it would be more of a challenge than I thought. Thanks Again !!!
