caring for a poodlecoat

Now .. some questions about caring for a poodlecoat. My little black poodle is 17 month and still have a rather soft coat. Somebody have any suggestions on shampoos and conditioners? I feel rather lost... My groomer talks and talks what I shouldn't use.. not to much perfume, not with salt, not colouring.. but what should I use???

I also wondering how I get the top-knot hair to grow long and thick. Should I use small rubberbands or soft bands ( hairbands they sell for children) ? Should I use some kind of product to protect it?
And really.. do anyone know.. lanolin, oil, silicon.. what is ok.. and what is a no no..

And.. if you have any super-products to recommend.. do you know where to buy it on the net?

Re: caring for a poodlecoat

Are you going to be showing her? If not, what kind of cut are you wanting her in? Depending on the cut you have her in/want, will stipulate what products/tools you need to use on her.

If you are wanting to grow out her topknot so that it can be put in a spray up, then you need to get some poodle bands. They are better at not breaking off coat. You will need wrappers as well, and need to learn how to band and wrap her coat.

Can you give some more info on her cuts, and possibly pics? I can offer more help if I know a bit more.

Yes .. I'm showing her ( just home from Stockholm and the world dog show) but I'm still just a novice in the breed. I learn so much on every show.. its so fun. She is in second puppy clip.. and I think she will be for a few years.. I want to test the continental clip ( hmm.. american lion clip?) whith shaved backlegs later on.. I really love thatone.. but it's not so common on the smaller poodles here.

O.. pics.. I'm terrible on updating my homepage.. but I have some old puppy-pictures here.. http://www.freewebs.com/hundgalen/curly.htm
Probably not so much help..

I bought #1 all systems - the Crips Coat schampo and a protein conditioner something. And I use Ice on Ice spray when I'm brushing. Maybe thats all I need? I just thougt that maybe its good to use something in the topknothair to protect it from breaking?

Her breeder thinks its best to use soft hairbands but the breeder that clipping her before the shows use rubberbands. But ok... you think the rubberband made for dogs is the best? I seems like most poodlefolks use them instead. Wrapping.. I have not tried that yet.. I studied how a girl with a yorkie did that so I should try and see if its works.

I had hope for a course to learn about these things but unfortunally is the instrest not great so I probably have to waaaait..
