Re: Question

Boy, you are brave! LOL Just kidding. You will need a few things. Any good quality pet shampoo is just fine. Find one that is mild, and preferably tearless, but doesn't need to be a puppy shampoo. I like EZ Groom's lines of product as well as Coat Handler. You can find them online if you do a search. You won't need to condition the coat, unless you are bathing more than once a month I would say. It would be extremely helpful to have a sprayer for bathing him, cause its going to be very tedious pouring water over his thick coat to ensure the shampoos are all rinsed out. That is VERY important. Product left in the coat can cause itching, flaking, and skin problems as well as making the coat dull and sticky, clumping together. You will also want to invest in a high velocity dryer to get him dry, and get that fluffy look you are talking about. My favorite is the K9II, great power, little maintenance and will do your big job in no time. There are other less powerful dryers, but do keep in mind that the more force you have, the more dead coat you blow out rather than brush out, and the dog dries faster too. You will need a pin brush and slicker brush and a rake and a metal comb. Clippers with a #30 or #40 blade for foot pads, and shears to tidy the tops of the feet. You can also use Coat Kings if you want to thin some areas, like the "pants" in the rear. That tool will help break up look undercoat as well. Just don't over do it or you could end up with balding spots. Good ear cleaner, and that should do you for a saint.

Re: Question

Very good advice, only would add get "real" clippers, not junk. Pet stores carry them, andis or oster, make sure they have interchangeable blades. Reason is a #30 OR 40 blade is great for feet w practice (be careful) but a ten will shave around the hawks and sanitary areas. Best thing us groomers do! No wet willies. Love St. "s. And, have a blast and be in charge. OH and a shop vac is a must!!!!!:
