dogs and chlorine?

In June I am moving into an apartment with an inground pool. Since it is a concrete pool with steps leading into the shallow end, the landlords have said that my dog, Ruby, is allowed to swim in it any time I allow her to (of course supervised). I think this is marvelous, as she is an older dog, and swimming will be good, joint-friendly exercise for her, as well as cooling her down this summer. The only question I had is whether the chlorine would be bad for her as far as her coat and skin is concerned? I imagine I should wash her off with plain water when we are finished, but are there any other precautions I need to take? After the snowiest Maine winter I can ever remember, it will be nice to actually get her out and get more exercise than we are used to getting, and since I hate the heat, I can't wait to get in there with her!! I have to also add that I hate swimming in lakes and ponds, too much unknown stuff under the surface, and the ocean is WAY TOO COLD, so I was thrilled at this opportunity.

Re: dogs and chlorine?

Hi...I have a pool and my dogs have swam with me now since I was a wee tot. I just make sure to rinse them well and apply ear drops and eye drops afterwards. Have fun!
