Question Being a dog groomer?

Do groomers need certification to groom animals?

I imagine that they do, or at least should, because human hairstylists need licenses.

Cool Re: Being a dog groomer?

I've been a dog groomer for 4 years, and while I do not think it is legally required for pet stylists to be licensed, I'm pretty sure that any decent pet salon/groomer will require it.
Check out www.AnimalWork.org if you are interested in grooming jobs. It's a jobsite that contributes a portion of all its revenues to non-profs. Very cool. Good luck, and hope I helped.

Re: Being a dog groomer?

At this time, it is not required to be licensed in order to groom dogs. Though currently there is talk in many states to take this under consideration. There are associations and schools that offer different degrees of certification. Corporate salons have their own individual training and certifications. Some groomers learn by apprenticing, whether formally or informally. Bottom line, at this time it's not regulated by the government, though it is being considered.
