Ear discharge

Dog went to the groomers yesterday and said that when they were cleaning out her ears they noticed a reddish discharge in her right ear. She is going to the vet this morning but i was wondering if anyone had ever had this happen. I have decided to not bathe her myself anymore in case its due to me not drying out her ears. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Ear discharge

what you are discribing is an ear infection, which is not caused by getting water in the ears. yes, water in the ears can harm the dog, but it will not result in an ear infection. this is very common in dogs with droopy ears, like basset houds, and dog with hairy ears, like poodles. the best way to avoid ear infections is to regularly clean your dogs ears. you can get cleaner at a pet store. put some cleaner on a peice of cotton and then clean ONLY WHAT YOU CAN SEE. you should also check the dogs ears everyday for anything red or gunky, or brownish yellow, or for any sort of smell.

the only way to cure it is to get drops or antibiotics from a vet. so im glad you already did that
