always itchy

my dog is always itching and he doesn,t have fleas or dry skin what could it be??

is he smelly? Is hurt could not be filtering, star has that problem. Other then that its probily allergies. Your vet will give you pills for that

What are you feeding him?

It could be food allergies. It could be environmental allergies or an allergy to the shampoo you use.

If you're positive there's no fleas on him, you might consider allergy testing to determine the cause.

I'd be considering environmental allergies such as lawn products, floor care products, laundry detergents, etc...

If nothing is amiss there then you have to try food allergies. You'll have to do an elimination diet to figure it out. If you write back with what you are feeding we can help you a bit more. But anything with corn (primarily) or other grains are the first suspect. After that you would consider the protein sources...lamb, chicken, etc.

If he's always itching around the ears, better check for ear infections or ear mites. Especially is he has the cute droopy ears. What breed is he? Some breeds are more prone to environmental/inhaled allergens, while others are more prone to food allergies. I'd do research to find out if either of those is more common for your dog, and then go from there.
