Hates any spot on

I've been using one regularly advertised spot on- my dog actually cowered every time I put it on,
after the first one. So then I tried another - same result in my dog. Don't know what it is in these products, but my dog doesn't like them. Maybe we should take notice?

Spot on is the stuff you put on the back of the dogs neck to stop fleas, ticks etc. Live in a paralysis tick area, so as well as checking daily, I need to use some sort of preventative.

Which brand are you using? Frontline and Advantix (from the vet) work better and are safer than the OTC brands like Hartz.

There is an oral. Sentinel is a heartworm/flea combo.

Sentinel doesn't kill fleas, though. It sterilizes them, like Program, and I'm pretty sure they need to bite the dog to be effective, unlike topical treatments that repell and kill on contact.

I use Sentinel for internal parasite control, but use Advantix also.

I've used both Advantix and Frontline - she doesn't like either. I'm thinking of going for the daily tablet of Proban for the ticks.

Re: Hates any spot on

Are you saying your dog doesn't like the feeling or is she having some kind of allergic reaction?

If she doesn't like the feeling - some dogs don't - Maybe it feels too cold on her skin - try holding the tube in your hands for a minute to warm it up before applying. Buck's not too happy when I give him his treatment either. He runs around the living room jumping off furniture for about 5 minutes then he's fine. He does the same when I clean his ears so I know it's just him.

If she's having an allergic reaction - that's a different story...
