Tips on brushing those difficult areas

Does anyone have any tips on brushing those difficult areas like around the butt and face? I took snoopy to the vet for his booster shots and the vet said there was a mat around his butt so he clipped it out. But is there a way to brush them out without hurting him? I'd be afraid the brush bristles will scratch his butt hole, sorry for being so blunt, or something. Also how should I groom his face because he gets all frisky when I try to do anything to his face because he thinks he is going to get his eye medicine. lol

Find a brush that feel comfortable in your hand and according to you dog's size ..... and keep you dog groomed by a proffessinall groomer at least once a month

Daily grooming is required for your dog's breed, first with a brush, followed by a steel comb. This will prevent any matting. Have your groomer do a close sanitary trim, and brush/comb often. By doing so, he will get used to it, and will be still and quiet for you.

I suggest that you should try to use a pin brush or comb on those sensitive areas or productive area . Use a comb instead of a slicker brush around the face area to prevent injuring your dog.

Hope this can help !

Re: Tips on brushing those difficult areas

Hi, Durbkat. I find it a pain in the butt to keep matts out of that area too. I have the groomer do a sanitary trim like someone else already mentioned on my shih-tzu and I groom my malti-poo myself so I give him the trim. I use a medium tooth comb in "those areas" very gently.

Good luck!

Yep a potty path is what I would do for sure. I make it part of my every 4wk. grooming sessions and sometimes a little sooner than that. I Love the metal comb and the pin brush. These are softer on their skin but still work best for the mats. Ofcourse everyday you should run the comb through the hair that way mats don't build up.

"sanitary trim" - I never could think of a nice way to put it, so thanks.

Suger doesnt seem to care whatso ever about being combed on the face. I dont comb her butt but I do comb the back of her hind legs. I dont think it bothers her. It does seem to be a tickelish place for her.
