Lightbulb help! my dog is half jack russell half doxen

I really need some feedback how to handle my 14 week puppy, jack. I got him from a rescue I suspect because he is such a handful! Love him to death, but russell is definatently the dominant half. I exercise him alot! have to wear him out to calm him down. he is good on leash and housebroke easily. Very smart! Not social with other dogs though. Probably my biggest problem is he bolts out the door at every opportunity, and chasing him of course makes it worse. Also my family does not understand his training and thwarts all my efforts. Any ideas? Have read several books including Ceaser Milan, now reading Tamara Geller The Loved Dog and like her ideas best.

Re: help! my dog is half jack russell half doxen

We taught Lilly the "stay" when we walk out a door and she does a decent job. It took alot of work to get that one to stick and its always an ongoing effort. We also taught herself that when we go out the front door she can watch us from the window so we make a game of it....we go to the door and say "go watch me" and she runs her little self up the couch and watches out the window and we wave and act all happy that she can see us. It works nicely b/c she has no desire to go out the door.

typo there....."we also taught" should read "she taught herself"
