Question rain, rain

This torrential downpour today has Dory freaking out. She has not pooped since yesterday afternoon and has only peed once in the last 20 hours!
Any ideas on how to get her to go out there? I have her covered with an umbrella even. She just stands in her spot and does nothing. She's eating normally, so I know she must have to go!

Re: rain, rain

My papillons are the same way. But we happen to live in an area where rain is infrequent. But on wild weather days (rain, snow, windy) they have been known to go 24 hours without eliminating. I have since bought a bag of piddle pads at the pet store and intend on putting one down in the laundry room the next time we have a storm. It would be so much easier than trying to keep both of them in my sights while indoors to prevent accidents.

I'd gate her into the bathroom with newspapers. Work on her going out while it's raining when the rain is lighter.

Re: rain, rain

Do you encourage them to eliminate indoors, or are the pads just to control a potential mess?
I wonder if she would go indoors...we've been doing so well with the outside training. I can't believe she won't go because of the weather.

Hehe...this thread made me make up a song...

"Rain, rain, go away- then my dog can poop today!"

Encourage her to go outside, even if it means you have to stand there with her. It would be a shame to confuse her on toilet training at this stage. Neither of my dogs wanted to go out in the rain initially, but I just bit the bullet and made them stay out. It paid off. My female is funny though - she'll run out and potty in the yard while it's raining, but, won't place her prissy little feet on the grass in the mornings when it's wet with dew! LOL Nope, she walks to the edge of the patio, swings her little hiney around, and pees! LOL

Poodles. They are something else!

Re: rain, rain

Success, my friends! What a dopey dog. But not one accident in the house or in her crate. She must be part camel...holding on to water for hours and hours! She did her business this morning outside despite the wind and rain. She was very brave. ~rolling my eyes~

It's still raining a little here, but we've survived the worst. Thanks for your posts.
