Book recommendations

Does anyone have any books or authors that they have found over time that are just indispensable, or top quality? Would be nice to get a bit of a list going for us beginners, or, well, at least me :P

Animals In Translation by Temple Grandin.

This is not a dog book exactly, it is more about animal behavior and how animals think. Some of it can be used to try to figure out what goes on inside the mind of our canine friends.

"The Other End of the Leash" by Patricia McConnell. Actually, anything by Dr. McConnell!

I saw her speak last night on dog behavior and biology. It was FASCINATING. I've read every one of her books and have the great privilege to attend classes with Duke at the training business she founded.

Re: Book recommendations

The Other End of the Leash is a great book, but not a basic starter one. Been a long time since I learned as much from a book.

Merle's Door by Ted Kerasote...it changed the way I will forever look at dogs and their behavior.

Re: Book recommendations

Ted Kersote is a gifted writer, but one more inexperience dog owner that let an easy dog fool him into thinking he was a dog expert. Letting dogs run loose isn't acceptable in most places today. Note his casual dismissal of Jack 1 getting killed in traffic.
