Exclamation Puppy terrified, sitting down in own waste?

Hi there.

Two days ago, a dog owner came up to me and gave me their 4 month old pup, saying that didn't want her anymore. I have taken in her. She is very underweight, and dehydrated. She is extremely scared of everything, and anyone, more so of males then females. I don't know anything about her past. She just curls into a corner, watching everyone and if you approach her she shakes violently, but she won't bite if you touch her. Taking her outside on a leash is a pain, because she refuses to walk. She lays down the moment shes outside and just shivers. When she uses the bathroom, if she is urinating, she will lay down and pee, but not move off of it. I think it's from fright. If she defecates, she will immediately sit down in it unless you pull her from it as soon as she's done. I don't know how to get her to stop doing these things. She is getting better day by day, but I'd like to know if there's anything to help speed up this process.

Don't go to her....let her come to you on her own as much as possible.
Drop treats on the floor and walk away.
Don't make direct eye contact with her or lean over the top of her.
Approach her from an angle....not head on or face to face.
Stop talking.
Slow down all of your body movements (slow and deliberate).
Soft praise and reward all displays of curiosity, confidence and bravery.
No corrections or reprimands.
No attention (not even looking at her) for scared behavior.

Yes, a good start. This works with young puppies just learning to walk on lead. Not sure it is right for you. If getting out in front and coaxing doesn't get a puppy moving, try dropping
behind it and running by in baby steps calling ''Go, go, go!'' In a happy,
excited voice.

Standing back at the end of the leash and producing a treat as it finishes, could help the laying in it.
