AKC Rally Obedience?

I just looked this up because I saw a post (not here) about obedience competitions for non-purebred dogs. But after going to the site, it appears that a mixed breed dog cannot compete

Does anyone know of an obedience competition that does allow mixed breeds?

Re: AKC Rally Obedience?

All major venues except for AKC allow mixed breeds. (Though, as of next year they are implementing a program where clubs may elect to have mixed breed entries at their stand-alone performance trials - ie., not on the same day as a Conformation show.)

UKC has both Rally Obedience and Formal Obedience. APDT has a Rally program as well. USDAA, CPE, and NADAC have agility.

Re: AKC Rally Obedience?

thanks for the info MissMutt I don't think UKC has anything for mixed breeds, APDT sounds interesting (it looks like a dog trainers site)

Looks like the USDAA is just for agility, not obedience. CPE is agility too...I'll keep checking the other sites

Re: AKC Rally Obedience?

The rally venues are CKC, AKC, UKC, APDT and CARO. First and last are in Canada. APDT is in Canada a little but primarily America. As Miss Mutt said to play AKC with a mixed breed it doesn't start till next year.

UKC does allow mixes to play, but like the AKC they will have to be altered to do so.

Yup, UKC does allow mixes, I was going to enter my mix into a UKC Rally trial this past August so I am sure of it.

Re: AKC Rally Obedience?

We do APDT and its lots of fun...much more relaxed and supportive than the AKC Agility trials I have volunteered at. We are really new to it and still in the puppy class, but you can have a look at our videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLt-QaDtSKU

Also, once you get started with one group, you hear about all the other events happening in the area....the only problem is that most of them require you to register your dog with their program, and all the registration fees add up. So try to find a program that has a few shows available in your area to start out with so you don't pay a bunch of small fees for one or two shows.

Good luck! I would love to see some videos when you make it to your first trial

Re: AKC Rally Obedience?

Thanks for all the info, it's a big help.

In about an hour we go for our exam for therapy dog with Wags for Hope. I'm nervous, Watson isn't *lol*

...and failed They were not ready, had us waiting for 45 minutes, and Watson got bored and wanted to play tug-of-war with his leash. Oh well, maybe next year.

Re: AKC Rally Obedience?

Aww I'm sorry. My kids wouldn't make good therapy dogs. I'm jealous of people who can do that. We did CARO rally this weekend and did quite well. It's a good bonding experience if nothing else
