Re: Dog Games

Stick with me-
get some treats and walk aroun your yard/house and whenever your puppy is going with you, drop him a treat and praise him.

Learn to Fetch-
Get two little toys your puppy likes. Throw one and let him chase it, then let him see the second toy to teach him to fetch.

Puppy push ups-
Lure your puppy into a sit, treat him, lure him into a down, treat, lure a sit...back and forth for a little while. Also good for teaching a sit and down.

Give me a break Game(from the book Control Unleashed)
Do one of the other games for only a few seconds with a high reinforcment rate, the Stick with Me game is good for this. Walk for a few seconds, get really into it an treat your puppy alot, then tell him he's All Done! or Free! and then sit in a chair. If he comes up to you again, play for a few more seconds. This teaches him that he can initiate the game on his own. Each time you reengage in the game, make it a little bit longer.

Re: Dog Games

One of the first games I teach my dogs is "Beat the Clock" which is great to reinforce obedience skills and also allow a bonding time over playing with a toy. It's loads of fun and really engrains those basic control elements like sit, down, wait, leave it, etc.

How it goes is you get pup all riled up on the toy like a little beast then all of a sudden you tell "give" take the toy back and issue an obedience command (showing the dog if it is still learning it's skills). The reward is that as soon as the dog performs the command the game resumes. No food reward just massive play, super upbeat tones and lots of praise and fun! It's amazing how fast they learn that they control the speed of the game by how fast they comply to the command.

Also a really fun one is "Pickle in the middle" to reinforce the come command. Ya do it just as it sounds. You and a friend have your dog in a safe area on long lead ifneed be and the dog is called by one person to come, as soon as he gets to that person and has gotten his treat the other person is calling him to come and ready to treat... and so on and so on... we get dogs booking on this one up to 50 yards apart between people.
