Re: newbe

Is she on a schedule feeding? After feeding her I woukd take her right out within a half hour, that is when she is most likley going to poop. After she poops make sure you take her right back in. Do you go out with her when she goes to the door?

Re: newbe

i leave a bowl of food out for her to eat when she's hungry but, during the day she's in an outside kennel when we are at work. when we are at home and her food is out she doesn't eat that much all at once. i leave the food out for her so as she gets older she doesn't scarf it down all at once. so she is kind of on a scheduel, she did go poop when we took her out this morning, yes, we are out there with her to praise her ect. thanks

Re: newbe

Thats great she went this morning, but I think till you get her trained you would have better luck giving her a little before you leave enough that she will finish. Then when you get home give her another meal so she will eat then take her out so she will poop. atleast till she gets the idea to poop outside.

Re: newbe

Your biggest issue here is feeding. Three small meals a day, fifteen minutes and the bowl goes away. This will help regulate her bowels AND give you control over training etc (you should always try training with a slightly hungry pup!). Do you have someone come and let her out during the day? Housetraining will be even harder if she has accidents in her outside kennel because it's hard to hold it that long.

Also...limit freedom in the house until fully housebroken..accidents are on the human's shoulders, not the pup.

BTW..if you are going to own a chessie...please learn to spell the breed name. It's Chesapeake Bay Retriever. They are wonderful dogs but strong, active and smart so be prepared to do LOTS of work with your puppy to make him a good adult!

Re: newbe

both of you are right, thankyou. cracker, mmm, you sound like a smart-ass, i like that in a person. no ones better at it then i am though. lucy has a 8x12 foot kennel she stays in when we are at work, so plenty big enough to poop and pee in, which she is doing very well. i will do the 3 meals a day thing and in the mornings before i go to work her dish will be full. no i wouldn't win the spelling B but you get my drift . lucy is 14 weeks old, my kids got her for us when she was 6 weeks old (august 3rd), we had up until september 3rd a half chocolate lab, half chessie mix, nakita, she was 15 1/2 years old, had arthritus and was just getting tired, we had to put her to sleep, that was one of the hardest things i've ever had to do, i loved that dog damn near more then my own kids.
