Make her stop, PLEASE make her stop

Okay so my roommate's 6 month old border collie/ chihuahua / rat terrier mix has been bouncing off my butt while I"m walking. I have no idea how to correct this. She does it kind of randomly, although most of time its when she excited about something. I walk down stair and head toward the kitchen and she runs up behind me, leaps into the hair and punches me in the butt with at lease 3 feet, then lands and goes and does something else. If I just ignore her when she does it she continues to bounce, if I just stop and/or turn around she goes and plays with the other dogs or leaves the room. And the other night she actually bounced off my shoulder blades . Granted I"m only 5'3" but still. It's very annoying and I'm not sure how to correct it, cause she only does it when I'm not paying attention, and obviously my back is turned so I can't see her coming. Any suggestions?

I'm sorry, but I find this hilarious. She's small enough to pick up and give a firm "no" to. But I dont know if that's the best way or if it just gives her attention.

Maybe if you see her coming, you can stop her, have her sit and then praise her. That may calm her down and give her attention. If she still jumps up on your rear, then I'd pick her up and say 'no' unless someone else who's better at this training thing than me says to do something else.

You really have to start paying attention and stop the charge before it happens...not after. You whirl around and lean into her...stomp your foot or clap your hands if necessary....stop her in her tracks. Praise for not jumping....showing her that praise/petting/attention comes when all four feet are on the floor.

Re: Make her stop, PLEASE make her stop

I have been working on the no jumping thing by not giving her attention when she does. And on the rare occasion she walks over and sits next to me I do shower her with praise and lovies. Its hard though because my husband and her owner do not do this, even though I have told them over and over. I am making progress but it is very slow since I"m the only one consitant about it. I do try to pay attention to her and stop her before she charges but it doesn't always work, she's very sneaky and quiet. I sometimes call her the ninja dog, she's better about being stealthy than my cat is.

And yes I do see the humor in it, which is the only thing that keeps me from killing her sometimes. Right now it is fine cause she only weighs 15 lbs but it looks like she's going to end up some where near 30 lbs (her dad was full BC her mom was the rat/chi mix). And it won't be so funny then, she'll be knocking me over with a well placed blow.

I'm tempted to teach it on cue, because that would be an awesome freestyle disc move, but she's really too young to be jumping.

I think TooneyDogs has the right of it though, interrupt the bad behavior, praise the good.
