Re: Tricks of the Month for July: Bow and Balance a treat on the nose!

Scout is doing great!

I kind of faded this month. I've been SO busy with life that I haven't had much time to train. I never did work on the bow... There's still some time left, but I'm not sure I'm going to get to it this month...

This is Dexter's big debut to the internets. Enjoy!

YouTube Video
If you are able to see this message it means that you don't have flash installed or that the video server is down.

Our Take a Bow is definitely not as good as CoverTune's Corona (Props! btw), but I included it anyway. He won't do it unless I lure with treat.

Dexter is great!! The balancing was perfect and I think you just need a tiny bit more time on the bow, but you've practically got it!

Re: Tricks of the Month for July: Bow and Balance a treat on the nose!

Is there a post requirement or specific member date that I must meet in order to participate? I visit a Lab forum and they want people to have 100 or more posts before entering the picture contests because you win prizes, so I was just wondering.

If not, I would LOVE to teach Deezel these tricks and show them off! I've attempted the nose treat one a few times, but I thought he was too little. After seeing FIC's post, however, I think I'll try that!

I'll get started with Take a Bow and post some videos when he's got it down.

I just taught him the "BANG!" tick the other day; it took him two attempts to understand and master it, I was amazed! Smart little guy.

Wow! Dexter is doing great! Good job, Runner! Very impressive!

Wolfiee, I don't think there's a post minimum. It's not really a contest, just a fun thing to do together. So go for it!

Yay for you and Dexter!! Very impressive treat on the nose... he's a pro!

And bow was also really good, you need to keep the hand motion but start to fade the lure now. Do a few lures, make sure your hand really smells like treats, and then just try without a treat in your hand. I bet he'll bow just fine, and then JACKPOT!

He's a lot bigger of a dog than I thought he would be! In the first video he looks small for some reason!

Nope, no requirements! It's not a contest or anything, just a way to have fun with our dogs and learn some new tricks and/or training techniques at the same time!

Feel free to take a video of Deezel doing "BANG!" and update that month's thread with it! Evereyone loves to see videos!

Oh wow... everyone else is doing so well! I feel a bit behind the herd lol!

I've been working on Bow with Jake... this might take a while. It really isn't something he does by himself very often(definitely not when I have a treat anywhere near me) so I'm having to use physical manipulation and luring. The hand movement really confuses him, because it is so like how I taught down, even though the signal for down is different now.

He'll get it though. I'm going to call it 'stretch'... and hey, at least this shows me he can do a perfect fold-back-down

Re: Tricks of the Month for July: Bow and Balance a treat on the nose!

Alright, just started working on this about 30 minutes ago and he's making some good progress! I used the physical manipulation technique at first - putting my hand under his hind legs - until he got used to that. Then I eventually took away my hand, put the treat towards the ground, and he does it pretty well.

Sometimes, he'll bow for a second and then go right into a down, so I'm trying to fix that. I'm also going to try and have him come back up instead of laying down after I give the treat, but that's just a matter of moving up the treat.

Eventually, I would like for him to do it without me having to lure him. I'm all for tricks that don't require luring :]

Yes, he tried to eat the camera for a second at the start, haha.

Any suggestions to stop pulling on leash? Very good off leash at the beach but trying to work on the pulling on leash. Very food motivated.

Hi Hank_weim,

There is tons of great info about leash-pulling on the forum, but you might have better luck if you start your own thread in the training or first time dog forums instead

Snapped these pics today. My hand in the first one is her cue to stay/wait and see the bone in her mouth in the second one? She still doesn't like to perform this trick, but for a treat she stops at nothing.

Great job! Your dog is cute... you wouldn't be able to tell that it isn't her favourite trick, as she looks pretty happy with that bone in her mouth!
