NEED HELP ASAP about method to use on housetraining..

I am picking up my puppy Cairn Terrier March 9..and I am veryyyyyy confused on method of housetraining: here are my hours for work.. I live exactly 10min. from home..

Monday 7am-1:30 (at worst)..6-61/2hrs, no break to come home
Tuesday 7am-5 (12-1..I come home for lunch)
Wednesday 11:30am (mostly 12:00)...11:30 only if there is an emergency..I work in dental-----3:30-4:30 to come home for lunch..and home at 8:00pm
Thursday 7-5..(12-1...to come home)
Friday..7-1..no break (worst case 1:30) (in summer we end at 12:00)

My breeder says to do 1/2blanket and 1/2 newspaper in the front of the crate...I am not so sure about that.. isn't that teaching the dog to soil it's den?? I have also been told to get an expen and connect the crate to it and put newspapers at the far and..away from the crate in the expen......I think that would be better in a sense because the pup won,t soil it's crate...but how and when would you transition the dog not to go on papers in the expen??? I live in a raised ranch and the expen would be upstairs..I have to go down one level of stairs to get the pup out to still train outside when I am home...arn,t you still teaching the dog to eliminate inside(the expen??) will that confuse the dog on training outside??? I do not have anyone who can come over to let the pup out mid-day..the time spans are 5-61/2 hrs at 9wks old that I cannot be there.
Some people tell me ooooh the pup can do this and others say no way...I want to start of right...PLEASE HELP WITH SUGGESTIONS>> I am running out of time here...

How old is the pup?

Sorry, it looks like you mentioned 9 weeks?

That is really young. All I know is that it took relentless training for my puppy to figure it out and she still isn't 100% dependable. Wherever you want her to eliminate, you have to keep bringing her there and then praising/treating when she goes. I have actually worn away the grass in my backyard from taking her to her spot and back so many times these past 2 months!

Sorry I can't be more help. I have her going outside, so never did the indoor thing. You can make it work. Just be patient. And go buy A LOT of Nature's Miracle cleaner and paper towels.

Here's the housetraining sticky

Is there anyone wo can come in to take puppy out? I know it should be fine for 3-4 hours, but not sure that 5-6 hours would be good right now. Any help you cna get from a neighbor or pet sitter would be of enormous value.

I agree. A petsitter or a trustworthy friend or neighbor that could come and let the puppy out when you are working longer hours? After the dog has had all of it's shots doggy day care might be a good idea just for the days that you are working longer hours. Our dog is home for 8 hours at the most at a time, but she is 3 years old. But I agree with you in that you don't want to get the dog used to going to the bathroom in it's crate...an expen would be a good idea IMO.

there is no-one to come over...I understand all in your site I clicked on..it's just that I don,t know which way to do it because of my cercumstances...crate with papers or ex-pen... or crate with nothing in there...9 wks is too young I think to go crate for 5-61/2hrs. away...

Do the crate with Expen. Betterthat than to have the pup going in his crate. Be sure to put the food and bed in his crate and Pads outside so there's lees confusion about where to go. You could also look into litter training your pup. It would be easier and less confusing.

Yeah they say Nature's Miracle really works to bad it's not available here in the Philippines. I've been to lots of Malls/Grocery/Hardware and no luck so instead everytime my dogs wake up I take them out so that they can do there thing even if it's in the middle of the night ( 2am sometimes even 3am )
