Potty Training: When will the dog go to the door?

Hey,

Ok, so i have mastered the ability to get my 12 week old puppy to go potty outside, both pee and poop. My question is...

"How do I train my puppy how to go to the door or to tell me he has to pee?"

Will this just happen on its own or is there something I can do to help? I currently have an older dog (5 years) who i may be able to use in aiding the puppy to learn. Is there anyway i can utilize my older dogs knowlege to benifit this cause?

Also, I want to know how to handle the "HOLD IT" lesson. Right now my puppy can hold it just fine in the crate for 6 hours (max i have him in there at one time). I tested his "'hold it" ability while out of the crate and with mild play and decent water, he can hold it for a hour. Sometimes after play, if he drinks alot of water, he tends to go sooner then an hour but mostly he can hold it. Every now and then i will test him to see how long he can hold it which results in a mistake made inside...roughly at the end of the estimated hour. I can sence when he may need to go when I test him and am not sure if i should let him "mistake" in the house or grab him before and rush him outside. Right now, I let him "mistake" not only to make sure he "HAD TO GO" and that it wasnt just a "sniff of curiousity (when he might have been able to hold it) but also to have the opportunity to "correct him" and let him know pottying in the house isnt ok. If he didnt have random accidents, i definatly wouldnt purposly alow ANY misakes, but since he still has random "before the hour" mistakes, which i most of the time don't sence he will do before hand, i need to have the abilty to catch him in the act when I do sence he will go to be able to say "ahh ahh ahh OUTSIDE!" when he is in te act.

Is this ok? or should I take him out before ANY possible mistakes? I test him to see if he may be able to hold it for 1hr and 15 mins but so far only an hour is possible.

Plus, If i take him out at my hour increments, How will i know if he could have held it longer if im always taking him at an hour? I want to start weening him back to hold it longer, but i also dont want to do it too soon and make space for more mistakes.

Let me know!

1."How do I train my puppy how to go to the door or to tell me he has to pee?"

2. Is this ok to let him make a few mistakes when I sence he might to allow for some correction? or should I take him out before ANY possible mistakes?

3. How do i go about teaching my dog to hold it longer with the most minimal mistakes?

my mom had a poodle once and all we did is take him outside after each meal and when he wakes up. He learned to call us everytime he needs to go all by him self (he was 6 or 8 months that time).

As for your dogs i think 12weeks they won't learn that not just yet. I also have a 12 weeks old puppies and it's been hard training them. I have to wake up sometimes around 4am just to take them outside to do there thing. but sometimes they bark at the door both of them and im not sure if thats there way of calling me. but i guess not coz sometimes the still pee and poo inside the room. but the good thing is everytime i wake up now there is no more poo or pee on my room.

here's how i do it.

1.take them out when they wake up (includes naps)
2.take them out after each meal. (even thou it was only an hour or two from there last poo)
3.take them out before I go to sleep (10pm)
4.wake up and take them out again (12am)
