Re: Info on Invisable fencing

I dislike invisable fences because i have read cases were loose dogs go into the yard with the invisible fence and the dog wont leave the yard because it know there is an invisabe fence and the loose dog attacks the other dog

Re: Info on Invisable fencing

I just installed one over a week ago and its the best invention ever. I have a 2 year old cocker and a 10 week old samoyed. The cocker was very well behaved and would just pop down to my mother in law who lives next door and that is as far as he ever went. However I knew with having 2 dogs one could lead the other so thats why we went for the Radio Fence. The cocker will not move outside the boundry whatsoever, even when my mother in law leaves my house (one time he would go with her back to her house) now he just sits and watches her leave. Brilliant invention, I would say go for it. Nothing will move them past that boundry, not even my kids and my cocker is very protective of the kids, goes everywhere with them!!!!

I think there is a lot of hearsay around invisible fences as well. People who have actualy used them as oposed to people who speculate about them generaly seem to be happy with them.

Re: Info on Invisable fencing

We have an invisible fence and it works great as long as you use it under supervision and not to "fence in" your pets while they are outside for a long period alone.

The fence itself works fine. I had a cocker and a terrier mix and now it's a terrier and lhasa. The cocker will not go near it. He knew the consequences. The terrier is braver, she gets to the edge but usually knows her boundaries. The lhasa is too young to use the fence, I just go out with him. Plus he's at the point where he'll only go where the terrier go, so we're still good. When the lhasa is more mature, we'll train him on it... we're working on potty training first.

The bad part of the fence is not the dogs getting out of it but it's more other animals getting in and the dogs not being able to leave the property. We have 3.5 country acres so we have wildlife roaming around. But, since we're only using it under supervision or very short unsupervised time (usually we're at the neighbors or inside) it's been great for us. Definitely a lot less than fencing the whole yard. We are planning on getting a small area fenced, private fence, just so that I don't have to look at the neighbors (even on acreage you still see them) but it's not going to be their main poop place -- just sometimes (with a doggy door going out to it) or if I ever get to fostering a dog or two down the road. I love keeping the dogs indoors (we take turns with our neighbor if we're going to be gone for an extended time on a weekend to let the dogs out and feed them).
