My dog is exhibiting weird behavior

Hello all. I have a 2 year old Miniature Daschund and Lhasa Apsa mix named Peanut Butter. I have had him since he was 10 weeks old and we have had a wonderful relationship until recently. I went out of town to visit my mother who is not a dog friendly person. Unfortunately I had to leave Peanut at a friends while i was gone out of town for 4 days. i called everyday to check on him and as I was heading back home when my friend called and said that peanut bit her. The story she told me was she took him out to walk and relieve himself and he went outside once. When they walked back in left to do something and noticed that peanut stopped moving around and went back into his kennel. She also notice a poop smell in the house. Apparently he pooped inside the kennel. She told him to get out the kennel so that she could clean it but he wouldn't. so she pulled him out and as soon as she pulled him out he ran back in. She attempted to pull him out again and this time he bit her. She nursed her hand and came back. She couldn't get him to come out so she took the top off of the kennel and kinda pushed him out. hashed up stairs and let go on her bathroom floor. To make a long story short i'm at my friends house to get my dog almost in disbelief that he bit her until i saw her hand. I just figured that he missed me and was misbehaving. When I got home I checked for any signs of physical abuse. No signs that I saw. Well two days later I'm cooking dinner and fixing a plate for me and the rest of my family. He goes into the kitchen smelling up a storm to see what I cooked. I made his dinner and continued to fix dinner for my family. I set the plates on the table and go back into the kitchen to get a few more things. Suddenly I hear a plate fall on the floor. I never feed my dog table food ever and he has never jumped on the dinner chair to get food either. So i tell him to go into his kennel because his punishment is to be separated from the family with no attention. He goes into his spot where his kennel is and comes back into the kitchen. I tell him to go back into the kennel. I forgot that I had the kennel out side cleaning it. He was lost and didn't know where to go. SO i finish cleaning up the mess peanut made and go to get his kennel and put it in the spot i usually put it. By the time I come back he is under the kitchen table. I tell him to get in his kennel but he wouldn't come from under the table. So I go towards the table and tell him to get into his kennel. Still no response. I see a puddle of pee on the floor up under him. So disgusted i try to pick him up since he wouldn't move and he attempted to bite me furociously. Maybe not furociusly but very violently. I stop to gather my thoughts because he has never acted like this. I have a 5 yr old girl and preg woman at home so i can't let him stay like this. i attempt to pick him up again and hit bit me. But instead of moving my hand away I put my other hand around the back of his neck to hold him down. Finally he let go and and I let go of the hold I had on him. I tell him to go in his kennel and he runs for the kennel. I fix my hand up in shock that my baby bit me. I go back to look at him trying to figure out why he is behaiving the way he is. He was facing the back of the kennel and would not turn his head to my calls. I'm confused as to why peanut is behaving like this. Was he abused by someone? If so, why attack me? i don't know what to do. The next morning hes acting like nothing ever happened. Its been 4 days and everything seem normal. Can anyone help me understand what is going on?

Re: My dog is exhibiting weird behavior

First, welcome to our forum.

Second, it's very difficult to read a clock of text. So in future posts use the return key to break up your paragraphs.

Look at this from the dog's perspective... You abandon your dog and leave him with a stranger and he, in a new environment, looses track of his potty schedule. Very common.

As a result of his accident your stranger friend attempts to forcibly remove the dog from his crate and bites your stranger friend. Also very common.

Your dog has another accident in your home, and you punish him and he too tries to bite you. After all he's been through over the last few days I would say this is common too.

Your dog is not ferocious. Your dog is acting as many normal dogs do when changes in the environment are as abrupt as this. No less wanted, but you have to understand that when your dog's environment changes remedial training is required.

Although the behavior can be explained simply, you should also rule out any potential medical conditions that would cause the behavior, with a vet check. Medical conditions can also be attributed to the behavior you've experienced.

Otherwise, get your dog back on a routine schedule and practice a lot of NILIF.

I would take him to the vet, have blood work done and have him checked for a urinary tract infection, as well as just an overall exam. It sounds like he is not feeling well/hurting somewhere.

Also, you should tell her friend that it is never a good idea to stick your hand into a kennel after a dog.
